Soil: The African Violet prefers acidic soil and can be found growing in small packets of soil caught between rocks.

Amaryllis

Flowering Plant

Hippeastrum Species

Indoor Plant Amaryllis

Light Exposure: North

Light Requirement: Moderate, Low, Very Low

Humidity: Average, Very Moist

Temperature: Cool, Warm

Amaryllis

Description: The Amaryllis is hard to overlook. While it initially blooms with one or two trumpet shaped flowers at first, it can produce up to five bulbs per stem.

Size and Growth: Amaryllis stems can reach 2 feet tall while the leaves can grow between 1 - 1.5 feet.

Soil: Repot every 3 - 4 years. Use potting soil with an equal amount of sand.

Grooming: The flower stalks and leaves dry out by themselves. When repotting remove any dry foliage or stalks.

Maintenance: If there are spotted leaves and dried out pedals on the amaryllis, it’s a possible indicator of a fungus attack. Make sure to cut off the affected areas and treat with an organic fungicide. The cause is almost always to overwatering and poor drainage. If there are small white water blisters on the plant, it means that there are mealy bugs. Spray with an organic nontoxic insecticide. If only the bulb is affected, dilute alcohol and wash the amaryllis bulb.

Seeds/Propagation: The Amaryllis is hard to overlook. While it initially blooms with one or two trumpet shaped flowers at first, it can produce up to five bulbs per stem.
